We utilise evidence-based therapeutic techniques at Ramsbottom Therapy to encourage insight and reflection. Our integrative approach combines various modalities to address the diverse needs of our clients.
At Ramsbottom Therapy, we believe that everyone has the potential to lead a fulfilling life. Our approach to counselling and psychotherapy is rooted in empathy and understanding.
I am the founder of Ramsbottom Therapy and a Psychotherapist with 25 years experience, I hold senior accredited, registered membership with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am a registered Certified Transactional Analyst and a registered member with the United Kingdom Association of Transactional Analysis (UKATA) and the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA). I am also a BUPA verified registered consultant, a qualified Supervisor and a qualified teacher of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
At Ramsbottom Therapy, we specialise in Adult counselling, psychotherapy, supervision, and training. Our mission is to provide a supportive environment where individuals can explore their thoughts and feelings to achieve personal growth.
When you choose to work with me, we agree a contract for the way that we will work and what the focus of our sessions will be. We will review and adapt as we work but we will always have a foundation which we will discuss within your assessment, in our first session.
Counselling and psychotherapy offer you an opportunity to examine your thoughts, feelings and behaviours at a deep and profound level, gain new insight into your relationships, find a greater sense of balance and gain wisdom or acceptance of your experiences.
At our initial assessment we will discuss which therapeutic approach we will work from.
Using IMAGO and Transactional Analysis our couples counselling services aim to improve communication and understanding between partners. At Ramsbottom Therapy, we create a neutral space where both individuals can express their feelings and work towards resolving conflicts. I will facilitate discussions that promote empathy and connection, helping you to strengthen your relationship.
Humanistic therapies focus on self-development, growth and responsibilities. They seek to help individuals recognise their strengths, creativity and choice in the 'here and now'.
Cognitive and behavioural therapies are based on the way you think (cognitive) and/or the way you behave. These therapies recognise that it is possible to change, or recondition, our thoughts or behaviour to overcome specific problems.
Psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies are based on an individual's unconscious thoughts and perceptions that have developed throughout their childhood, and how these affect their current behaviour and thoughts.
Our mindfulness sessions provide tools and techniques to help you develop a greater sense of awareness, reduce stress, and improve your overall mental well-being. We offer individual and group mindfulness sessions for a variety of mental health concerns.
The counsellors and psychotherapists who work from Ramsbottom Therapy are independent practitioners that are committed to provide high quality therapeutic services. Each practitioner holds indemity insurance, an enhanced CRB, has completed advanced clinical training and achieved registered accredited status with a recognised ethical body such as British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and/or the United Kingdom Association of Transactional Analysis (UKATA) to ensure the highest standards and quality service. About me and my therapy practice
Hello I'm Beverley, I am an Integrative therapist with over 14 years experience and I have registered accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have worked with a diverse range of people, exploring a large variety of issues for both long and short-term durations. I have experience of working with many clients who have concerns and difficulties with anxiety, stress, relationships, assertiveness, grief & loss, confidence, goal-setting, work related stress, emotional distress, and much more.
I also work with people who want to understand themselves on a deeper level, or who use therapy as an ongoing way to maintain their happiness and well-being. It is not always easy to face difficulties and find ways to resolve them, but I have seen people again and again find ways to understand themselves in a deeper way and bring about the changes that lead to more positive, fulfilled and interesting ways of living.
Feel free to get in touch for more information.

About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Joanne, depression, anxiety, addiction, abuse are just some of the issues I provide support for. I offer a place to talk and explore anything that may be concerning you in a safe, confidential, welcoming space where you can feel at ease to share and make sense of whatever is holding you back. Each person's journey differs so I aim to explore it with you, adapting my skills to fit your needs. I believe each of us holds the ability to enhance our lives, sometimes we just need a little help along the way.
My professional background consists of working in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre, working within schools and nurseries, voluntary counselling in a women's refuge plus Bolton Beacon Counselling Service. I currently share responsibility for the mental health wellbeing of staff and students in a busy college. I would like to invite you to contact me for an informal chat where you can decide if i'm the right fit for you.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Ramsbottom Therapy offers professional supervision for therapists seeking to enhance their practise. Our supervision sessions focus on clinical skills development, ethical considerations, and personal reflection. We aim to create a supportive environment that encourages growth and ensures the highest standards of care for clients.
I would describe my supervisory style as a psychologically integrative approach to promote insight and reflection. I help to identify choices and responsibilities to provide an environment for growth and change.
My own ('home-base') core modalities, include person-centred therapy, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive analytical therapy (CAT), neuro linguistic programming (NLP) and psycho-educational models.
Animal Assisted Psychotherapy Supervision (AAPS) using my fully insured 2 year old Cockapoo dog Beau. He is in ongoing training.
The benefits of having a therapy animal present in psychotherapy that are already known are reduction in anxiety levels (Barker & Dawson, 1998, Braun & Clarke, 2009, 2021) and an increase in emotional regulation and recognition skills (Burger et al, 2009). Therefore, as the supervisory relationship contains many parallels to the psychotherapy relationship (Bernard & Goodyear, 2009, Couch, 2022). I feel the benefits found in animal assisted psychotherapy will be replicated in the animal assisted psychotherapy supervision process.
We are currently completing a research project using (AAPS) training in the United States.
Title of Study: A single subject study into the impact of a therapy animal in psychotherapy supervision through the lens of Hawkins and Shoert seven eyed model of supervision and Transactional Analysis.
Experience the power of connection in our group supervision sessions at Ramsbottom Therapy . These sessions provide a supportive space where individuals can share their experiences and learn from one another. Group supervision can be particularly beneficial to increase confidence, share learning and reduce isolation, it fosters a sense of community and belonging while promoting personal growth.
